MULTIPLICATION


 


Unit Overview

This unit focuses on multiplication.  It is important that you learn the multiplication facts so that you will be able to divide and work with fractions and decimals.  Learning the multiplication facts will help you be successful in math class and you will use these facts for the rest of your life. Multiplication is a shortcut for repeated addition. 

 

Multiply or Add


Multiplication is repeated addition.  An array is a picture showing the addition and multiplication sentences in groups.  You can count the groups and the number in each group to find the answer.  For example:


The multiplication facts are a series of skip counting and patterns.  These patterns will help you to remember the facts.  In multiplication, every time that you see a Zero, the answer will be Zero.  Any number times 1, stays the same.  For example, 7 × 1 = 7.
