GETTING TO KNOW TIME

Unit Overview

Message #1 to Mentor: In this unit, the students will associate events with time periods. At the conclusion of this unit, students will be able to differentiate events of today, yesterday, tomorrow, and long ago.

Message #2 to Mentor: The first video shown below is a presentation of the first part of this unit. Students should view the presentation several times.  After ample “practice” in viewing the interactive presentation, and when the mentor feels the student is ready to move on to the questions, proceed to Message #3 to Mentor.

Message #3 to Mentor: The student will now complete Activity One, Questions 1 and 2.

The mentor will observe and monitor student progress as the student selects answers, making sure the student is clicking in the appropriate area to answer the corresponding questions and also to save their answers frequently.  IF NECESSARY, THE STUDENT MAY ORALLY CHOOSE THE ANSWER AND THE MENTOR WILL GUIDE THE STUDENT IN CLICKING THE STUDENT-CHOSEN ANSWER.

Message #4 to Mentor:  The next video shown below is a presentation of the second part of this unit. Students should view this section of the unit several times. These initial viewings of the second part of the unit are considered practice, and the mentor should give ample help.  It is all right if s/he makes mistakes.  After ample “practice” in viewing the presentation, and when the mentor feels the student is ready to move on to the questions, proceed to Message #5 to Mentor.

Message #5 to Mentor: The student will now complete Activity Two, Question 3.

The mentor will observe and monitor student progress as the student selects answers, making sure the student is clicking in the appropriate area to answer the corresponding question.  IF NECESSARY, THE STUDENT MAY ORALLY CHOOSE THE ANSWER AND THE MENTOR WILL GUIDE THE STUDENT IN CLICKING THE STUDENT-CHOSEN ANSWER.

Message #6 to Mentor:  Once all the activities presented above are complete, and the student can distinguish between time categories such as long ago, yesterday, today, and tomorrow and correctly identify pictures from long ago versus current pictures, the student can proceed to the next unit.
