PROJECT-BASED LEARNING: YOUR TIMELINE
Unit Overview
Welcome to your first project! In these last few units, we
have talked about timelines, primary, and secondary sources. For this unit, we
are doing a project where you get to create your own timeline! This timeline
will be about your own life. In this
project, you'll get to map out the key moments in your life so far.
Since
we have also talked about primary and secondary resources, you should also
create a list of what sources you used, and what kind of resource they are, for
this timeline. All of these events happened in your life, so do you think YOU
would be a primary source? YES!
Are your parents or caregivers primary sources? YES!
Objectives
-
Start
with your birth
-
Have
between 5-8 events on your timeline
-
Use
pictures/drawings AND words
-
Have
a list of sources
-
Have
a title for your timeline
-
Have
your events labeled with dates
Where do I start?
1.
Brainstorm the most
important events in your life and make a list. (ask parents for help)
2.
Narrow it down to
5-8 events.
3.
Think of a title
for your timeline.
4.
Get a sheet of
paper and start drawing!
5.
When your
pictures and words are finished, you could color in your pictures.
6.
When your
timeline is finished, create of list of all the primary or secondary sources
you used or referred to.
7.
After you have
completed everything, go to the Answer
Questions tab on the left. Upload your timeline there as an attachment.
Remember, this does NOT have to be fancy or on a big
poster board. A sheet of paper will do. We learned about two different kinds of
timelines, vertical and horizontal. You may use either. Below is an example of
what your timeline could look like.
