Consent
and Respect
Objective:
Students will learn about the
concepts of consent and respect, understand personal boundaries, and learn
strategies to communicate and respect personal boundaries.
Vocabulary
Consent - The agreement
between people to engage in an activity or behavior. Consent must be given
freely and enthusiastically, and it is never okay to pressure someone into
doing something they don't want to do.
Respect - Treating
others the way they want to be treated. Respect includes listening to others,
being kind and caring, and respecting personal boundaries.
Personal boundaries - The
limits and rules that a person sets for themselves in relationships, based on
their preferences, values, and needs. Personal boundaries can include physical,
emotional, and intellectual boundaries.
Communication - The
exchange of ideas, information, and feelings between people. Effective
communication involves both speaking and listening.
Agreement - A
shared understanding or decision between two or more people.
Enthusiastic - Showing
strong and excited feelings about something.
Pressure - Attempting
to influence or persuade someone to do something they don't want to do.
Kindness - Being friendly,
considerate, and generous towards others.
Caring - Showing
concern and empathy towards others.
Listening - Paying
attention to what someone else is saying or feeling.
Sharing - Giving
or offering a part of what one has to others.
Empathy - The
ability to understand and share the feelings of others.
Trust - Believing in the
reliability, honesty, and integrity of others.
Safety - The
condition of being protected from harm or danger.
Support - Help
or assistance given to someone in need.
