Body composition refers to all the tissues that make up your body.

Types of Body Tissue

1.  Lean Body Tissue

a.  A great majority of the body

b.  Includes muscle, bone, skin, and body organs

c.   Muscle fitness exercises help build lean body tissue

2.  Body Fat Tissue

a.  Another primary type of body issue

b.  Your body fat level refers to the percentage of your body that is fat tissue

c.   About half of your body fat is located deep within your body; the other fat is located between your skin and muscles

d.  Determining your body fat requires expertise and special equipment

Factors that Influence Body Fat

·     Heredity

·     Metabolism

·     Maturation

·     Body fat levels early in life

·     Diet

·     Physical activity

Body Fat Relation to Wellness

·     Having too much fat can be unhealthy; higher risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer

·     Health costs for people who are obese are also much higher compared to people with healthy levels of body fat

·     A person with higher body fat also tires more quickly and easily, leading to a decrease in efficiency in school and recreation.
