BUILD A 3-D MODEL

Unit Overview

In this unit, you will need Lego blocks, connecting cubes, Lincoln logs, or other types of building blocks.  Build a 3-D model using around 100 of these objects.  After you have constructed your 3-D model, answer the following questions.  Have fun building your model!

Build a 3-D Model

Example
:  Help George build a 3-D model using his blocks.
George decided to build a pyramid using his blocks.  He knew that a pyramid is shaped like a triangle somewhat, but would have a slightly different appearance as a 3-D pyramid made out of blocks.
Follow along to see how George created his pyramid.

Using his blocks, George built the pyramid's base using 16 blocks,
placed side by side, in the shape of
a square (4 × 4).

For the second row, he used 9 blocks, placed them side by side, in the shape of a square (3 × 3).

In the third row, George used 4 blocks, placed them side by side, in the shape of a square (2 × 2).

Finally, George added one more block to complete his pyramid.

How many blocks did George use in all to create his pyramid?

16 + 9 + 4 + 1 = 30

Solution:  George used thirty (30) blocks to build a three-dimensional (3-D) pyramid.
